Tired of the ‘sameness’ of all perfumes even from high end brands? Not too thrilled that half your colleagues wear the same scent as you? Looking for that exclusive fragrance that can make you stand out from the crowd? Look no further than this collection of extraordinary perfumes from the most exclusive perfume makers of the world. Some are old and some are new, but each is definitely exclusive and exceptional!

1. Acqua Di Parma Colonias for men & Le Nobili for women

An Italian fragrance house that has stood for understated luxury and timeless elegance for close to a century now. Founded in 1916 in the town of Parma, this luxury perfume house has seen many highs and lows but it continues to make exclusive fragrances in the typical way of the Italian appreciation for all finer things in life! For men, we recommend Colonia Essenza from the Colonia Collection which is an ode to the quintessential gentleman- all suave elegance, perfectly cut suit and the minute attention to detail. From the Le Nobili collection for women we recommend the Magnolia Nobile which is just the scent for the modern woman of refinement and finesse.

2. La Collection Privée Christian Dior

Yes we adore J’Adore and the other bestselling fragrances from the House of Dior but let’s admit it, everyone else does too. So here’s another alternative for all you Dior addicts. The La Collection Privée Christian Dior- the exclusive range of handcrafted fragrances for men and women available only at Dior boutiques. They perfumes are a testament of Dior’s expertise and passionate craftsmanship. For men we highly recommend the woody Bois d’Argent and for the ladies our vote goes to jasmine infused Grand Bal.

3. Penhalignon’s Trade Routes Collection

One of the oldest and most prolific British fragrance houses, Penhalignon’s has been creating exclusive perfumes that are characteristic and clutter breaking. The house uses the rarest of rare ingredients like ‘hand squeezed bergamot, to jasmine at twice the price of gold’ and their signature fragrance bottle is still the one founder William Penhaligon designed. We recommend their Trade Routes collection – 5 fragrances which are as exclusive as they come and are inspired by  the luxurious and decadent commodities that came to London from the far flung corners of the mighty English empire at the turn of the 19th century. Famous is the Lothair inspired by the Tea Clipper ships and the newest addition is the Halfeti which draws inspiration from exotic Turkish goods traded in London.

4. Edition Perfumes

Created in 2014 by Timothy Han, this fragrance house specialises in handcrafted, artisan perfumes created for exactly those who are ‘Tired of perfumes that lack personality and were created by a marketing department’,- Timothy Han’s own words. The perfumes are inspired by creative works and people. Like the debut fragrance She Came To Stay– inspired by Simone de Beauvoir’s novel by the same name. The fragrance is unisex and fast becoming a top contender for smells to remember. Another distinctive feature is that they never use artificial preservatives or synthetic chemical boosters and since ingredient quality differs from season to season, each package is numbered and released in production editions with limited edition artworks on the box. How’s that for exclusivity?

 5. Les Exclusifs de Chanel

Chanel has given us the most enduring fragrance of our time- N°5. And the fashion power house continues to give us exclusive fragrances with the Les Exclusifs de Chanel collection. This is a truly unique concept- 15 perfumes inspired by different aspects of Gabrielle Chanel’s life and work. Places Coco loved, people she was inspired by, materials she drew into her work- all are brought to olfactory life by master perfumers. The latest to be launched just this year is Misia– named after and inspired by art patron Misia Sert who was Gabrielle Chanel’s close friend. We also recommend the lavender and vanilla infused Jersey.

6. Le Labo City Exclusives

We think Le Labo is the enfant terrible of the fragrance world. Niche, exclusive, modern and irreverent, this New York based perfume houses was founded by Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi in 2006. They believe in the real art of perfume making and shun all ‘poetic’ lines explaining a scent and brush aside crystal bottles as a mere marketing gimmick! Their perfume comes in functional almost clinical glass bottle with a number indicating the number of notes in its composition and the name of material  referring to the most prominent note in it. You must try the City Exclusives collection inspired by the cities they retail out of and each of the 9 scents is available only in the respective city it was inspired by!

7. Mugler Les Exceptions

Dubbed Couture Fragrance, this exclusive collection from the Thierry Mugler is a re-intepration of classic perfume materials and notes in a contemporary and fresh light. The collection is very niche and has been created by giving a whole new and bold avatar to  traditional fragrance notes. The latest addition Cuir Impertinent is our recommendation for men and for women we choose the hyacinth infused Supra Floral.

8. Maison Francis Kurkdjian

In 2009 Francis Kurkdjian founded the eponymous luxury fragrance house in Paris and the brand has been making quite mark in the niche luxury fragrance map. Francis is an experienced perfumer who has created many bestsellers in the past for brands like Jean Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab, Burberry etc. His fragrance house promises rare olfactory experiences that are an epitome of sophistication and elegance. Of special interest is the bespoke fragrances atelier Francis actually opened back in 2001 being totally against ‘perfume democratization’. His custom made services continue till date whereby he creates unique fragrances for his clients. Of the readymade scents, we recommend the heavy and sweet À la Rose for women and the powerful Plural Masculin with lavender and leather notes for men.

9. Clive Christian Private Collection

Clive Christian is credited with the creation of the world’s most expensive perfume- the Clive Christian No1. The fragrance house is all about unapologetic opulence and extravagance and their perfumes are a reflection of that. They are so exclusive that mostly private connoisseurs collect them. From such prestigious pedigree comes the Clive Christian Private Collection- a most special range of fragrances from the perfumer’s private collection. This trilogy of luxury perfumes called ‘C’, ‘V’ & ‘L’ are fragrances that are his favourites and are very expensive and extremely hard to get.

10. Wiener Blut Taschentuch Series

‘The term WienerBlut was coined in 1873 and describes the unique blend of archness and hedonism attributed to the Viennese.’ True to it’s name, this Austrian fragrance house, established in 2009 by Alexander Lauber, is an olfactory journey into hedonism and indulgence. Their debut Taschentuch Series was a re-intepretation of classic perfume bouquets of 19th century Vienna which were originally applied to handkerchiefs at the time. We recommend two scents from this series- Florentiner with lavender, rosemary and cedar wood notes and the Volka Maria which boasts of Moroccan rose and tonka beans. Just sounds rare and exclusive too doesn’t it?

May the Force be with you!
